Tell us a little about yourself.
I moved to London to improve my English, and I am still working on it. I like to see myself as a problem solver and I happen to do it mostly by writing code.
When did you start repairing electronics and electricals?
When I was a kid I used to watch and help handing tools out to my dad, whilst he was under the car. He would change a filter, drain the oil.. There always was something to tinker, and I always wanted to help. But I got onto other mundanities, and life ,and forgot it all, until a friend of mine dragged me to one of the restart parties in Hackney.
Why do you attend Restart Parties?
I like to meet people, help out and learn. I really enjoy being around tinkerers who are willing to share their knowledge. I also find it amazing to open the lid on all those black boxes of devices we have but do not really own.
What is your favourite kind of repair?
I like it when we do the investigation work together with the owner of the device; and when we leave the restart party having learned something, with a smile on our faces.
What do you do when you are not Restarting?
I like cooking and I enjoy eating my cakes too. I procrastinate. I sometimes jog. I daydream a lot. When I have some time left I read, host workshops for women who code, and attend various meet up to hone my technical skills.
What frustrates you (in life)?
Being Human, I believe kittens have it all.
My laziness, therefore, that it is easier, and most of the time cheaper, to throw away and buy again than to repair.
What gets you out of bed in the morning?
The prospect of a good breakfast, it usually involves coffee. I’d rather be late than miss my breakfast. I have not figured out yet another reason to wake up, though I ask myself the question almost every morning.
What’s the first thing – one material thing – that you could not live without? (besides oxygen, food, water, and shelter and medical care)
In my present circumstances, I would think my phone and computer are the things I use most. But if shelter, food, and comfort were out of the equation and I was living by the sea, then it would probably be sunglasses.
