Our latest exciting announcements, opportunities and tips
After more than a year of surveys, interviews with group organsiers and repairers, design and development work, we’re delighted to announce that we’ve now added support for non-electrical/electronic items in our repairs database, the “Fixometer” Normally on International Repair Day we run a large Restart Party, to celebrate the day together with as many of our volunteers as possible. This year, on 17 October we invite Londoners to help us celebrate the independent repair shops who help us all stay connected, especially during lockdown. The Repair Directory lists reliable repair businesses in London. We are asking the public to submit their favourite London repair shops! The need for electronic devices is high. We look at how Hackney Fixers, a community repair project in London, is reusing donated laptops to support students. Because some of us are definitely escaping this summer through books, we thought we’d publish an extended summer reading list. This is a follow-up to the initial list shared in our July radio show. We hope you enjoy it! Last night we wrapped up the second edition of Fixfest UK, the first online edition! Thank you to the 200+ people who “attended” Fixfest UK over the past month. Fixfest UK will run during the month of June (and part of July) with space 200 in our in online gathering for repair activists. We’ll share perspectives, inspire and learn from each other and continue building towards a fairer, more capable and greener future. The pandemic presents huge challenges to communities around the world, including community repair groups. Fortunately, we see the world through the lens of repair and are practised problem-solvers. We’ve been inspired to see how groups around the world have adapted online.
