Description

Following on the success of our very first Repair Shop at the Makers Cabinet Factory on Vyner Street in the heart of East London we are now pleased to announce our second Repair Shop!

Bigger, better and with music!

At our first Repair Shop we meet with thrifters, upcylers and people from our local community wanting to fix things. By connecting them with our growing community of “Fixers” the Repair Shop helped breathe new life into everything from a toaster to a grandfather clock from centuries ago.

What to expect

- Free coffee, tea and biscuits

- 10+ professional artisan “fixers”

- Open fire and music

- An insurmountable amount of geeks talking, comparing specialist instruments and maybe even a pencil sharpening competition.

Join before the tickets are gone!

The space we have is limited so we recommend you to clear your calendar and book your slot today and let us know what you are thinking of bringing along. It will also give us time to find and grow our community of “Fixers”. So, book now and come along with your broken possessions and let’s extend their life!

If you are a repairer and want to join our community of “Fixers”, get in touch here: https://therestartproject.org/groups/makers-cabinet-fixers/

About Makers Cabinet

Makers Cabinet was founded in 2017 by a team of designers, Odin Ardagh, Benjamin Weininger and Noah Bier. The three founders who met while studying Product Design at Central Saint Martins were dissatisfied with the disposable and wasteful nature of the stationery market and wanted to change that. It began with a simple idea, re-imagining the way we sharpen pencils. Since then, they have created a range of original and exciting heirloom quality tools, elevating the drawing and writing experience to an art form.

Why the Repair Shop?

Our products are made to last for generations. Success for us means actively fighting the culture of "planned obsolescence” - effectively brands producing consumer products with a built in best by date. Things break, but that doesn’t necessarily mean we need to buy new ones. With the right person most things can have a second and third life. We believe that hosting events like this empowers us as consumers and helps to build bridges amongst communities.

Makers Cabinet Fixers

Makers Cabinet is an E London based design business who create high quality drawing and writing tools.

As a business unsatisfied with the lack of longevity with products on the market, we felt compelled to share our ethos on repairing and not replacing the things you own. In our Repair Group we are more than willing to share our knowledge, skills and equipment to empower our local community.

We will host quarterly Repair events where we will invite our MC community and local community to come, bring their broken objects and collaboratively fix their items.

We have an amazing workshop and yard space perfect for a Repair event. We are happy to share any equipment and tools required as long as they are respected and returned to their rightful home. We will also provide tea, coffee and snacks, and potentially some beers towards the end of the day.

Looking for :

More repairers with a variety of fixing skills, especially female fixers! Our previous event was a major success but the space was male dominated. We want to encourage an inclusive, accessible space for all members of our community as at the end of the day, we are here to collaboratively fix our items, reduce landfill and build bridges within our community.

Contact Noah (Founder and Head of Sales at MC) if you have any question or want to assist at our next event: [email protected]
