Make a planter workshop
It’s amazing what you can do with old clothes and textiles!
Join Sew Positive to learn how to turn redundant fabric into an attractive plant holder.
On Thursday 26th October from 1-3pm at Akeman Street Community Centre in Cambridge, Sew Positive – the Cambridge charity that provides opportunities for vulnerable people to nurture their mental health through free sewing workshops and courses – is playing its part in the Food for the Planet Festival. Come along with your unwanted fabric and go away with a useful planter for your home.
All you need to bring is your old denim and empty 2 litre straight sided plastic drinks bottles for the activity – or they will be provided.
The festival, organised by Cambridge City Council and Cambridge Sustainable Food, encourages people to grow their own food and make positive steps to tackle climate change at a personal level.
Running from Saturday 21st October to Sunday 29th October 2023, the festival will focus on climate action on a plate. It aims to inspire change towards more plant-based, seasonal eating and less food waste through a variety of events and activities across the city throughout the week.
As well as Sew Positive’s planter workshop, you can take part in community meals and cookery, food growing and preserving, art activities and talks, and activities to cut food waste or celebrate seasonal fruit and vegetables.
