Description

Children of Cambridgeshire, bring us your broken toys and we’ll do our best to fix them.

Cambridge is hosting its first ever Repair Cafe that’s totally focused on fixing children’s games and toys! The event is tying in with the screening of WALL-E. Repair Cafes are free events that match experienced repairers with people who need stuff fixing. Children are invited to drop-in to see one of our repairers before or after one of the films, anytime between 9:30am and 12:30pm. You can bring:

Consoles                                Mechanical toys

Gaming devices                 Teddies and dolls

Electronic toys                    All toys….

The hosts, Cambridge Carbon Footprint and Transition Cambridge and the 38th Cambridge Film Festival look forward to welcoming all during half-term. Please note, children need to stay with their parent or carer and sit with the repairer during the fix.  No booking required, you may have to wait and it’s limited to one item per child. Love toys, hate waste.

Cambridge Area Repair Cafes

Repair Cafes are distinct from Restart Parties, but there is considerable overlap, and much to be gained from sharing information.  They are co-ordinated from the Netherlands (http://repaircafe.org), and are not in competition with Restart Parties (there's more than enough to fix for us both!)

Repair Cafes tend to be less hi-tech than Restart Parties, though we will tackle computers, laptops, tablets and phones when requested.  Repairs are always free, and a cafe (which charges modest prices) is associated with the event, to cater for those who are waiting to be seen.

The Cambridge Repair Cafe Group co-ordinates Repair Cafes in the Cambridge area.  There is a link to the group at http://www.repaircafe.org.uk.  Currently active at least once a quarter are:

Abington
Chesterton
Cottenham
Fulbourn
Girton
Shelford
Waterbeach

New Repair Cafes are expected shortly in Haddenham and Linton, and we have done one-off events in Cambridge and Ely.

We are aiming to set the record for the largest Repair Cafe in the world in Cambridge on 11th November 2017.
