Description

The Friends of Girton Glebe Primary School are organising their post Christmas mini Repair Cafe and tree shredding event for Sunday 5th Jan. Please book your item in so that we can give you a repair time slot and check that we have the right repairer available. Email: [email protected] with a description of what you’d like to bring along and what’s wrong with it (if you know). You’ll receive an email confirming your time slot nearer the time. Please bring any spares – we carry basics but not zips or screens etc.

As well as the mini Repair Cafe there will be a Soft Toy Hospital, tree shredding by Acacia Tree Surgery, refreshments including soup, tea & cake from Girton Allotment Society and FOGG, wheelie bin cleaning by Wheelie Fresh Bins and craft activities for children with Smartkidz & FOGG

All funds raised will support Girton Glebe Primary School.

Cambridge Area Repair Cafes

Repair Cafes are distinct from Restart Parties, but there is considerable overlap, and much to be gained from sharing information.  They are co-ordinated from the Netherlands (https://repaircafe.org), and are not in competition with Restart Parties (there's more than enough to fix for us both!)

Repair Cafes tend to be less hi-tech than Restart Parties, though we will tackle computers, laptops, tablets and phones when requested.  Repairs are always free, and a cafe (which charges modest prices) is associated with the event, to cater for those who are waiting to be seen.

The Cambridge Repair Cafe Group co-ordinates Repair Cafes in the Cambridge area.  There is a link to the group at https://www.repaircafe.org.uk.  Currently active at least once a quarter are:

Abington
Chesterton
Cottenham
Fulbourn
Girton
Shelford
Waterbeach

New Repair Cafes are expected shortly in Haddenham and Linton, and we have done one-off events in Cambridge and Ely.

We are aiming to set the record for the largest Repair Cafe in the world in Cambridge on 11th November 2017.
