This October: Join Restart At City University

Green-Dragons-started-roaring Restart

One of the objectives of the Restart Project is to help new groups all over the world to replicate our Restart Parties independently, to support the spreading of repair skills and reduce chances that a simple, repairable fault in a pair of headphones, a printer, a kettle or a laptop might result in additional e-waste.

In October we are very excited to work at City University to help set up an independent City University Restart Party, run by students and staff for the local community. We have run Restart Parties in universities before, but this project looks at helping to create a local team of Restarters, who will then start running regular events. We are supported by the City University’s Green Dragons

As part of the month-long activities, we will run two Restart Parties, a talk on the repair movement and on the importance of self-repair and a workshop on how to run Restart Parties. We will also support students and staff to run their own first event. Get in touch with us if you want to get involved, and follow the hashtag #RestartAtCity for updates.

Here is the full programme:

Thursday 2 October – outside Oliver Thomson Lecture Theatre
11:15am – 12:15pm – Learn about the Restart Project and repairing to avoid unnecessary e-waste
12:30pm – 4.30pm – Restart Party: bring a broken device and learn how to repair it with the Restart coaches

Thursday 9 Oct – Convocation Suite, Centenary Building
10:30am – 12:30pm – Learn how to organise a Restart Party
12.45pm – 4.45pm – Restart Party: bring a broken device and learn how to repair it with the Restart coaches

Thursday 23 October – Northampton Suite ABC, University Building
11am – 2pm – Help to run the first student and staff-run Restart Party or just bring a broken device and learn how to repair it

Everyone is invited. Come learn why the most ethical electronic devices are the ones you already have, and become a Restarter!
