We’ve just released a set of new educational resources that help us open our electronics and open our eyes to the raw materials inside that we are simply throwing away. Even when we recycle electronics, most of these “critical raw materials” are not getting recouped.

Earth Overshoot and World Wide Web Day

Every year, “Earth Overshoot Day” is an awful day on the Anthropocene calendar. It is the day in the year by which humans will have taken more from the earth than the planet can naturally renew. This year, Earth Overshoot Day coincides with World Wide Web day.

Restarters in London definitely earned a quiet Christmas holiday. As well as taking fixing activity to Parliament and the Greater London Assembly we ran events in libraries, community centres and church halls across 14 London boroughs, on all points of the compass.

The footprint of those iPhones

The estimated manufacturing footprint of 80 million iPhone 6 projected to be sold (6,460 kilotonnes) will be greater than the total annual carbon footprint of the London boroughs of Westminster, Lambeth and Camden – of over 770,000 people and all of the business activity in three central areas of one of the world’s richest cities.
