Volunteers at a Restart Party fixing devices, cropped on hands

Description

We are excited to be holding our very first Repair Café and Swish (clothes exchange) in Shepreth on Saturday 11th May at 2-5 pm.

We are offering repairs for electricals, electronics, mechanical, sewing and jewellery. Please book items in for repair using the following link: https://bit.ly/sheprethrepair24

Bring your clothes (adults and children) for the Swish from 1pm.

Doors open (and refreshments and cake available) at 2pm.

Offers for help with helping on the day eagerly received!

How does a Repair Café work? If you have items that need mending, bring them along to our Repair Café. A free event where you can learn a little about your broken item while a volunteer repairer assesses it and, where possible, does a fix while you watch how it’s done! We will be using a booking system, but drop-ins may also be possible – more to come on this.

What is a Swish? It’s a clothes exchange! Do you have a wardrobe full of clothes but nothing you want to wear, time for a spring clear-out or a chance to find a new look, sustainably? Bring your clothes (adults’ or children’s clothes) to our Swish! You can bring and take as many clothes as you like.

Tea and cake will be available.

Cash donations would be very welcome!

Shepreth Repair Cafe and Swish (Sustainable Shepreth)

Sustainable Shepreth was initiated in January 2023 by a group of residents. We are all passionate about finding ways to address the effects of climate change and its impact on the biodiversity of our community. We have the encouragement of the Parish Council and are keen to involve the whole village in these endeavours.

Restart Party Do’s and Don’ts

DO

  • Check if your device is still within warranty, you may be eligible for a free repair, replacement or a refund. (Which? helps in the UK).
  • Take responsibility for your device and your data. Our volunteers are here to help you learn to fix your gadget, not to provide a free repair service. Get involved!
  • Backup your data. We can’t be responsible for your cat pics, so please back up your device before you come. (Of course you already do this once a month, right?)
  • Charge up your device and bring all leads.
  • Get in touch with organisers if you have any questions about whether a fix is possible.

DON’T

  • Assume repairs will be successful. We help fix over half of devices at our events. Even if your repair is unsuccessful, you will learn about your device and why it failed.
  • Expect us to have spare parts. But we can help you source them. Often people visit twice: first we’ll help diagnose the fault, then you source the spare part, and on your return we’ll help you do a replacement.
  • Attempt a mobile screen repair just to save money. DIY mobile screen repair is a learning opportunity first and foremost. Please see our advice page first.
  • Bring a microwave.
